Maryland Avenue Convenience Store Robbed

Released- Tuesday, April 2, 2008

Five Points- On April 1st, at approximately 5:40 p.m., Troopers responded to the Tienda Cristo Rey convenience store, 301 S. Maryland Avenue, in reference to a robbery complaint.

This investigation revealed that sometime after 5:00 p.m., the owner of the business, who was working by herself, locked the front door to the store because she was going to be in the back for a few minutes.   While she was in the back the victim advised she heard glass shatter, followed by a loud thud.  She walked back up front to investigate the noise at which time a male subject walked up behind her.   Before she could turn around the victim felt an unknown object pushing against her at which time this suspect demanded cash.

The suspect forced the victim toward the cash register where she removed an undisclosed amount of money.  She turned this money over to the suspect who fled the business on foot and continued in an easterly direction on Maryland Avenue.  It was later discovered the suspect made entry into the store via a rear window.

The suspect was only described as a male, unknown race, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, 175 – 185 pounds, thin  build and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and gloves.

Anyone with information pertaining to this case can call investigators at 302.834.2620 ext 4 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.TIP.3333.  On line tip submissions can be made via http://dsp.delaware.gov/crimstop.htm.
