Monday, March 31, 2008
New Castle
County- On Saturday,
March 29, Troop 6 patrol officers arrested two subjects implicated
in shoplifting complaints which occurred at three Rite Aid Stores in
New Castle County as well as two other Maryland stores.
At
approximately 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, State Police dispatch received
a call from the Rite Aid located at 4609 Kirkwood Highway. The 911
caller advised two subjects had just shoplifted from their store and
the thieves had fled the scene in a blue Toyota Camry bearing a
Maryland registration plate. Troopers started to converge on the
scene when one of the officers, who was already handling an earlier
shoplifting at a Rite Aid located at 3200 Kirkwood Highway, elected
to check the parking lot of a third Rite that had not yet been
struck by the sticky finger bandits.
This officer
pulled up to the Rite Aid, located at 1602 Capitol Trail, and
observed the suspect vehicle. Two male subjects were seen getting
into this car. A Rite Aid store employee was then seen running
toward the suspects, point at them. The Trooper positioned himself
behind the suspects and took them into custody without incident.
The two bandits were identified as Mark Jackson, 27, of East Old
Philadelphia Road in Elkton, Maryland; and Rodney Messick, 33, of
Jay Drive in New Castle.
Officers
learned that the two would conceal items in their clothing and flee
the store without paying for same. A check of the suspect vehicle
revealed a jacket in which the inside of the coat had a slit cut
into the liner allowing the suspects to conceal merchandise. Also
located in the car, Troopers found over $4,300.00 in
suspected stolen property.
Through their
investigation, the officers were able to implicate the two bandits
in thefts at three Rite Aid Stores in Delaware as well as a Rite Aid
and a Ross Clothing Store in Bel Air, Maryland.
Jackson and
Messick were both charged with the following offenses: Receiving
Stolen Property (felony), Possession of Shoplifting Tools (felony),
Conspiracy 2nd (felony), two counts of theft
(misdemeanor) and two counts of Conspiracy 3rd
(misdemeanor). These two individuals were both committed to the
Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $4,500.00 secured
bail.
Also, a routine
computer check revealed Jackson had another active warrant for his
arrest out of Troop 2 in reference to a shoplifting case. |
