Bear- On Saturday, March 22nd, at approximately
10:35 p.m., Troop 2 patrol officers responded to Dairy Queen,
located at 200 Buckley Boulevard, in reference to a suspicious
person passed out behind the wheel of his Mercedes Benz.
An ambulance crew arrived first and confirmed that the operator
appeared intoxicated, but did not require medical assistance.
Troopers then made contact with the operator, Jayson Williams,
25, of Bridgeton, New Jersey. Williams stepped from the car and
spoke with the officers. A Trooper asked for Williams’ driver’s
license. Williams advised that it was in his car and turned to
retrieve same. All of the sudden, Jayson Williams then took off on
foot toward Route 40.
Troopers gave chase and yelled multiple commands for Williams to
stop- however, he did not comply. A Trooper deployed his
departmentally issued Taser which allowed officers to take Williams
into custody safely and before this impaired driver could run into
traffic on Route 40.
Jayson Williams was charged with Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor),
DUI (traffic charge), Driving While Suspended (traffic charge), No
Proof of Insurance (traffic charge) and Inattentive Driving (traffic
charge). He was arraigned and released on a $1,650.00 unsecured
bail. |
