Released-
Thursday, March 20, 2008
Newark-
Troopers responded to the
area of I-95 southbound in the area of the Service Plaza in
reference to a multi-vehicle crash on today’s date at 10:00 a.m.
A 2003 Nissan
Pathfinder (operated by Bryan Sousa, 47, of Skillman, NJ) was
traveling I-95 southbound in the left center lane. This vehicle lost
control for an unconfirmed reason and moved to the right center lane
where it struck a 2002 Ford F150 (operated by Kenneth Grier, 49, of
Lincoln University, Pennsylvania). The Nissan was deflected back to
the left where it struck a metal guardrail and ultimately overturned
several times. It came to rest on its roof.
As a result of
the initial impact, the Ford was pushed to the right lane where it
struck the trailer portion of a 1999 Freightliner Tractor Trailer
(operated by Amik Singh, 32, of Richmond Hill, New York). The Ford
and the Freightliner came to a stop on the right side of the
highway.
Sousa and his
passenger- Tina Ruggiero, 42, also of Skillman, NJ- were transported
from the scene to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening
injuries.
Sousa advised
investigators that the crash resulted from another tractor trailer
that struck his vehicle and caused him to lose control.
No citations
were issued. All parties involved were wearing their seatbelts. The
roadway was closed for approximately 30 minutes while this crash was
investigated. Motorist then experienced delays for another hour
while the scene was cleared. |
