Tuesday, March 18, 2008
Claymont-
A Troop 1 patrol officer
has been investigating a series of thefts from the Kmart (333
Naamans Road) that began on March the 11th. On four
separate occasions someone had stolen five LCD monitors from the
electronics department valued at $379.00 a piece.
A break in the
case came on March 17th, when store loss prevention
apprehended Shawn L. Barber, 32, of Miller Road in Wilmington. He
was caught red handed as he used a tool to defeat a security device
attached to a LCD TV on display. Barber allegedly tucked the screen
under his winter coat when he was taken into custody.
The
investigating Trooper successfully also linked Barber to four prior
thefts in which the total amount stolen exceeded $1,600.00. A
search of Barbers person at the time of his arrest yielded a crack
pipe.
He was arrested
for Possession of Shoplifting Tools (felony), Theft (felony) and
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was committed to the Howard
Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $4,000.00. |
