Purse Snatching in Newark

Released- Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Newark- On Monday, March 17th, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Troopers from Troop 6 were called to the parking lot of Liberty Plaza (shopping center at the intersection of Route 2 and Possum Park Road) in reference to a purse snatching.

This investigation revealed a 27-year-old female victim had just finished work at a store in this shopping center when she sat on the curb in front of Sun National Bank to wait for a family member to pick her up.  She was getting something out of her purse when a male subject approached her, snatched her purse and ran on foot towards the Melrose Place Apartments.  The victim briefly gave chase but lost sight of the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, 15 – 20 years old, 5’10” tall, with a thin build.  He was only described as wearing dark clothing.
