DSP News Release: Friday, September 4th, 2009

 

Location: USRT 113 and SR 18 (Seashore Highway), Georgetown, DE

 

Date of Occurrence: Friday, September 4th, 2009 at 6:39 hours

 

Resume:  On Friday, September 4th, 2009, Delaware State Troopers responded to the above stated location reference to a physical injury crash involving two vehicles at approximately 6:39 pm.  The eastbound and westbound lanes in the direction of the Circle in Georgetown were closed due to the Memorial Service for Officer Spicer of Georgetown Police Department scheduled for 7pm.  DelDot was at the intersection assisting with the road closure.

 

A fully marked Seaford Police Department vehicle, operated by PFC Jason Scott, 26, of Seaford, activated his emergency equipment in an effort to cross the intersection.  Traffic in the southbound lanes slowed/stopped as the patrol vehicle crossed the lanes of travel. 

 

A 2009 Honda Civic, operated by Dawn Humphrey, 34, of Milford, was traveling northbound in the left lane on USRT 113.  The Honda Civic collided with the patrol vehicle.  Upon impact, the Honda struck a raised median and overturned. 

 

PFC Scott was not injured in the crash.  PFC Scott was properly restrained and alcohol was not a factor.

 

Ms. Humphrey was the only occupant in the Honda and was mechanically extricated from her vehicle.  The Delaware State Police Helicopter (Trooper 4) transported Ms. Humphrey to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Ms. Humphrey was wearing her seatbelt and alcohol is not a factor.

 

 

The investigation is on-going at the present time.  Any additional information will be released in subsequent press releases.
