DSP News Release: Updated Release – Traffic Advisory - Troopers On-Scene an Injury Crash
Location: The intersection of Peterkins Road and Patriot’s Way, North of Sussex Central High School, Millsboro

Resume: Delaware State Police have cleared an earlier injury crash and the roadway at Peterkins Road and Patriot’s Way has been reopened.
The investigation revealed that a 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, operated by Ms. Patricia Bowen, 46, of Millsboro, was traveling southbound on Peterkins Road, approaching a stop sign. Following a stop, Ms. Bowen attempted to execute a left turn to travel eastbound on Patriot’s Way.
Ms. Bowen’s driver’s side door was struck by a 1998 Ford Workvan, operated by Mr. Stephen Heitzman, 52, of Millsboro, who was traveling westbound on Patriot’s Way. Mr. Heitzman had the right of way.
Ms. Bowen’s 15-year old son was seated in the front passenger seat. Ms. Bowen and her son were both transported to Beebe Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
All parties were wearing their seatbelts. Both vehicles had air-bags deploy.
Ms. Bowen will be cited in the crash for Failure to Yield Right of Way after a Stop.
The roadway was closed for approximately one-hour.

Location: The intersection of Peterkins Road and Patriot’s Way, North of Sussex Central High School, Millsboro
Date of Occurrence: Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 7:39 am

Resume: Delaware State Troopers are presently on-scene of a physical injury motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Peterkins Road and Patriot’s Way.
Initial reports indicate that the crash involves two vehicles and the natures of injuries are unknown at the present time.
The roadway is presently closed for the investigation and emergency personnel that are on-scene. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes of travel due to the road closure.
An additional release will be forthcoming outlining the investigation of the crash as the information becomes available.
