Two Injured In Lewes Crash

Lewes – The Delaware State Police are investigating a three car crash that occurred this morning at 9:01 am in the intersection of Coastal Hwy and Savannah Road in Lewes.

 

Troopers learned a 2002 Honda Civic, operated by Nelly Tonnessen, 68 of Milton was northbound on Coastal Hwy entering the intersection at Savannah Road.  A 2004 Lincoln Town Car, operated by Gary Showers, 68 of Lewes was southbound on Coastal Hwy attempting to turn left to travel east on Savannah Road. 

 

Mr. Showers failed to stop at the red left hand turn signal and entered the intersection striking the Honda Civic on the driver’s side.  A third vehicle, a 1999 Toyota Camry, operated by Joshua Macgilles, 23 of Hohokus, NJ was traveling northbound behind the Honda Civic and was also struck by Showers’ vehicle.

 

The operator of the Civic, Ms. Tonnessen and the Town Car, Mr. Showers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Beebe Hospital.  Mr. Macgilles was not injured.  All parties were wearing seatbelts and alcohol is not a factor.

 

Mr. Showers was cited for Failure to Stop at a Red Light.
