DSP News Release: Sunday, May 24, 2009- Stuntman Charged with Felony Resisting Arrest
Location of Incident: Route 1 and Route 24, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Sussex County
Date and Time of Occurrence: Friday, May 22, 2009, at approximately 11:00 p.m.
Suspect: Dave Moncavage, 43, of Park Avenue in Georgetown, Delaware
Resume: Late Friday evening, a Troop 7 patrol officer was traveling Route 1 northbound, approaching CR270, when he observed a motorcycle operator 'pop-a-wheelie.' With the bike up on one wheel, the operator let go with both hands and continued down the roadway. The operator resumed two-wheeled operation and turned onto CR270. The bike turned into the Wawa on CR270 and the Trooper followed behind him.
The Trooper activated his emergency equipment and the operator of the bike accelerated quickly through the crowded parking lot. The operator, to be referred to hereinafter also as the suspect, tried to jump a curb, and into a field, in an attempt to elude the Trooper. When the bike hit the ground, it fell over. The Trooper quickly moved in and tried to apprehend the suspect.
The suspect put up a fight and actively resisted the Troopers attempt to take him into custody. Eventually, the handcuffs were secured the bandit arrested. This suspect's actions resulted in the Trooper damaging his uniform. This operator was then identified as Dave Moncavage. He told the Trooper he fled to avoid getting a ticket. He also added that he was a stunt bike driver. This coincided with the tag on his motorcycle- "STUNT."
Moncavage was transported back to Troop 7 where he was formally charged with Resisting Arrest (felony), Disregarding a Police Officers Signal (felony), Criminal Mischief (misdemeanor), Reckless Driving, two motorcycle violations and Failure to Signal. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of secured bond.
