Lewes Teen Arrested for Drug Offenses

Lewes – The Delaware State Police have arrested a 17 year old Lewes girl after troopers discovered marijuana inside her pocketbook today at Cape Henlopen High School.
The investigation began after school officials contacted DSP and requested to conduct an unannounced drug K-9 search of the campus. Earlier today at approximately 9:45 am, a Delaware State Police k-9 was checking the woman’s locker room when it came across a pocketbook the floor. The dog alerted to the item and gave a positive indicator that illegal narcotics were inside.
Troopers searched the purse and located 10.9 grams of marijuana packaged in six individual bags. They also located a marijuana pipe with residue in it. Troopers learned from a teacher that Kristen R. Zulaica, 17 of Lewes was the owner of the pocketbook and that she was in possession of it when the teacher informed her to leave it in the locker room while the K-9’s searched the room. The teacher observed Ms. Zulaica place the pocketbook down and exit the locker room. Additionally, troopers located her driver’s license inside indicating the purse belonged to her.
During the investigation, troopers also learned that Ms. Zulaica was in possession of marijuana at her home. Troopers recovered an additional 6 baggies with marijuana in it totaling 14.1 grams. They also recovered a scale and an additional marijuana pipe.
As a result of the investigation, Ms. Zulaica was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana (F), Possession of Marijuana (M) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (M). She was released to her parents pending future court proceedings.
