DSP News Release: December 23rd 2009, 5:00 pm - Spilled Ice Cream dispute escalates into Attempted Murder

 

Location: Sussex Highway, southbound just north of Delmar, DE

 

Date of Occurrence: 12/22/09, 10:50 pm

 

Defendant:  Natasha H. Evans, 26, of Delmar, DE

 

Resume:  Troopers responded to Sussex Highway, just north of Delmar, DE for a fight on the side of the roadway.  Upon Troopers arrival they contacted a male in his 40’s standing along the roadway that was noticeably shaken up.  The male then guided Troopers to a female victim 25 years old lying on the side of the roadway with severe swelling to her face.  The Troopers immediately rendered aid to the female victim who was later transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for her injuries.

 

Troopers also made contact with the defendant Natasha H. Evans, 26, of Delmar, DE who was sitting in a vehicle on the side of the roadway where the victim was discovered.  Trooper’s preliminary investigation revealed that Natasha H. Evans was involved in a verbal altercation with the female victim, which quickly escalated into a physical assault.  Natasha H. Evans was placed in custody at the scene without incident.

 

Troop 4 Detectives were contacted to investigate the incident due the severe injuries to the victim.  Detective’s investigation revealed that Natasha H. Evans and the female victim were traveling in a vehicle on Sussex Highway just outside of Delmar, DE, when they became involved in a verbal argument over one of their children spilling ice cream.  The operator of the vehicle being driven by the uncle of Natasha H. Evans pulled the vehicle over to the shoulder of Sussex Highway due to the argument becoming heated.  After the vehicle pulled over to the shoulder Natasha H. Evans exited the vehicle and began to walk home.  The female victim approached Natasha H. Evans and told her to get back in the car since it was cold and Natasha H. Evans’s two young children were still in the vehicle. 

 

Natasha H. Evans became so enraged that she struck the female victim several times in the face causing her to fall to the ground.  Natasha H. Evans continued to strike the victim after she had fallen to the ground.  Natasha H. Evans pulled the female victim into a ditch on the side of the road where the assault continued.  Natasha H. Evans even held the female victim down in a shallow pool of water that had gathered along the roadway.   It was not until a citizen that was passing by stopped and approached Natasha H. Evans that the beating ceased. 

 

The female victim received severe swelling the face and head area from the assault, and is listed in stable condition at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

 

Natasha H. Evans is charged with, Attempted Murder 2nd (f), and 3 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (m).  Natasha H. Evans was arraigned, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $52,000 cash bail.
