DSP News Release:  Sunday, August 2, 2009-Serious Injury Crash on US 13

 

Location:  US 13 Northbound South of Cannons Road, 1 ˝ Miles North of Seaford, Sussex County

 

Date of Occurrence:  Saturday, August 1, 2009 at approximately 1120 p.m.

 

Resume:  The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) investigate  a late night crash involving a single vehicle.

 

The investigation revealed that a 1998 Hyundai Tiberon, operated by Nathaniel Rathbone, 19 of Bridgeville, was traveling northbound on US 13 (Sussex Highway) in the right lane.  For unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted off the east edge of the roadway and entered a ditch before it began to overturn an unknown number of times. The right front seat passenger, Andrew K. Montigny, 18, of Greenwood, sustained a serious closed head injury and was flown by DSP helicopter to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in Critical Condition.

 

The driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts. 

 

Mr. Rathbone was transported and later admitted to Nanticoke Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

 

This crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.

 

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.
