MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED SEX CRIMES

Stafford, Va.   The Stafford County Sheriff's Office reports the arrest of George Louis Woodrum, age 69, of 2660 Forest Ave, Dover, Delaware.  Woodrum was arrested in Stafford County on Thursday, November 12, 2009.  Woodrum has been charged with 1 Count of Solicitation and Manufacturing of Child Pornography and 2 Counts of Attempted Indecent Liberties with a Juvenile.  George Woodrum is currently incarcerated in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

In early October of 2009, Stafford Detective Darrell Wells began investigating a case involving a 13 year old female, who is a resident of Stafford County.  The mother of the 13 year old told Detective Wells that George Woodrum, the great uncle of the 13 year old female had been asking inappropriate questions to her daughter.  At that point, with parental permission, Detective Wells assumed the identity of the teen on the e-mail exchanges with Woodrum.  Woodrum began to ask for sexually explicit pictures as well as requesting to have sex with the teen.  On Thursday, November 12, George Woodrum traveled from his home in Delaware to the teen’s home in Stafford County to have, what he thought would be, sex with his 13 year old great niece.  Stafford County Sheriff’s Office personnel were on scene when he arrived and Woodrum was immediately taken into custody.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is asking that if anyone has been approached by George Woodrum in relationship to the above listed charges to contact the Stafford County Sheriff's Office at 540-658-4400 or the Delaware State Police at 302-697-2104 Ext. 309.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office reminds citizens of the danger of sexual predators who travel the internet trying to contact potential victims.  If any citizen is contacted in this manner call the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.
