DSP News Release: Saturday, May 23, 2009- Detectives Investigate Maryland Avenue Stabbing
Location of Incident: 624 South Maryland Avenue, Wilmington, Delaware
Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, May 23, 2009, at approximately 3:06 p.m.
Suspect: five to six Hispanic males
Resume: Shortly after 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, Troopers were called to the Boxwood Shopping Center for the report of a stabbing.
This investigation revealed two Hispanic males (victims) had just patroned an ice cream shop at this location and were walking to their car in the parking lot when three other cars pulled up and surrounded their vehicle. One of the victims immediately fled on foot along a side walk to get away. The second victim fled on foot back into the ice cream shop and was trying to close and lock the door when an unknown Hispanic male subject reached in with a knife and stabbed this victim in the abdomen.
The first victim who fled on foot was chased down and struck in the shoulder with a pipe.
The assailants got back into their vehicles and fled the scene.
The stabbing victim was transported and admitted to Christiana Hospital where he was last listed in stable condition. The other victim refused medical treatment.
Investigators have limited information to go on. The only information to provide at this point is that five to six Hispanic males are involved. Intelligence gathered at the scene indicates this incident is gang related.
