DSP News Release: Wednesday, August 12, 2009- Serious Injury Crash Reported Yesterday on Route 13 at Duck Cree Road
Location: Route 13 at Duck Creek Road, Smryna, Delaware
Date of Occurrence: Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 3:15 p.m.
Resume: Troopers are investigating a serious injury crash from yesterday afternoon on Route 13 at Duck Creek Road.
Kristin Shaner, 25, of Clayton, Delaware, was operating a 2008 Chevy Aveo.
Edward Slaughter, 89, of Townsend, Delaware, was operating a 1994 GMC pick-up. He was accompanied by his wife, Dorothy Slaughter, 87.
The Chevrolet was stopped on Duck Creek Road waiting to turn left onto Rt. 13 northbound. The GMC was traveling Rt. 13 southbound and approaching traffic light. Light for the Chevrolet turned green so Ms. Shaner proceeded to execute her turn. The GMC never stopped, entered the intersection on a red light, and struck the Chevrolet.
Ms. Shaner was transported to Christiana Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Edward Slaughter was transported to Christiana Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries
Dorothy Slaughter was transported to Christiana Hospital and is listed in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
This crash remains under investigation.
