State Police Investigate Fatal Vehicle Crash

Released-Thursday, April 24, 2008

Harrington-The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit CRU has released additional information concerning a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday evening on DE 14 (Vernon Road) just west of Harrington.

Upon arrival at the scene, investigators learned a 1999 Mercury Sable operated by Brian E. Ebling, 39 of Felton, was eastbound on Vernon Road. The Sable veered off the north edge of the road and struck a mailbox and fire hydrant.

After striking the mailbox the vehicle overturned and Mr. Ebling was ejected. Mr. Ebling was flown to Christiana Hospital and later died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

It’s unknown if Mr. Ebling was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Vernon Road between Walt Messick Road and Whitleysburg Road was closed for approximately three hours while investigators examined the scene.

State Police Investigate Vehicle Crash West of Harrington

Released-Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Harrington-The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is presently investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred along the 8500 block of (DE 14) Vernon Road west of Harrington.

At approximately 9:05 p.m., state troopers from Troop 3 were dispatched to the scene to investigate a reported crash involving a passenger car and a fire hydrant. Preliminary information from the scene revealed the male driver was ejected and suffered life threatening injuries. He has been flown to Christiana Hospital by Delaware State Police helicopter Trooper 2.  There are no other reported injuries at this time.

Vernon Road between Walt Messick Road and Whitleysburg Road is closed. Motorists should seek alternative routes and delays are likely. The investigation is ongoing and no other information is available. Supplementary facts will be released to the media as soon as practical.
