State Police Detectives Charge Seaford Trio with Series of Twenty-Two Residential Burglaries

Released-Monday, March 31, 2008

Seaford-State Police detectives recently charged three Seaford residents with numerous felonies including burglary, theft, and conspiracy.

Between the months of October 2007 and January 2008 the bandits allegedly broke into twenty-two dwellings located between Concord Pond in Seaford and Collins Pond in Bridgeville. The suspects stole jewelry, cash, electronic devices, and firearms totaling over $110,000.00.

Detectives broke the case when one of the suspects identified as Dennis L. Baines, 20, of Seaford, pawned a 10 karat diamond ring taken from a home located along the 24000 block of Snug Harbor Circle, in Seaford.  The ring was taken during a December, 2007 burglary of that home. The ring valued at $40,000.00, was pawned at the Sussex County Pawn shop. Baines signed the pawn slip.

After recovering the ring, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Baines.  On January 25, 2008, troopers located Baines at the Seaford Royal Farms and took him into custody. While there he was found to be in possession of a stolen (22. cal. handgun) also taken from home located on Snug Harbor Circle.

As the investigation continued, detectives learned that Baines did not act alone.  Also indentified and charged were 16-year-old Dwayne Roberts and Michelle Taylor, 19, both of Seaford. Taylor and Baines are boyfriend and girlfriend. Dwayne Roberts is an acquaintance of Taylor.

As a result of the investigation, Baines was formally charged on March 13, 2008 with the following criminal offenses: of 16 counts of Burglary 2nd Degree (F), 7 counts of Theft (F), 5 counts of Theft (M), 17 counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree (F), 13 counts of Criminal Mischief (M), Attempted Theft (F), and Attempted Burglary (F).  Baines was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $45,000 secured bond.

Taylor was formally charged with the following criminal offenses on March 7, 2008: 6 counts of Burglary 2nd Degree (F), 3 counts of Theft (F), 6 counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree (F), 6 counts of Criminal Mischief (M), and 2 counts of Theft (M).  Taylor was arraigned and released on $46,000 unsecured bond.

Roberts was formally charged with the following criminal offense on March 21, 2008: 15 counts of Burglary 2nd (F), 9 counts of Theft (F), 5 counts of Theft (M), 17 counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree (F), and 13 counts of Criminal Mischief (M), Theft of a Firearm (F), Attempted Burglary (F), and Attempted Theft (F).  Roberts was arraigned and released on $37,400.00 unsecured bond with a co-signer.
