State Police Investigate Fatal Crash

Released-Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Kenton-The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred last night.

Yesterday at 8:40 p.m. troopers were dispatched to Wheatleys Pond Road north of Seven Hickories Road to investigate a reported vehicle crash involving bicyclist and one other vehicle.

Upon arrival at the scene investigators learned a bicycle operated by Khalif Robinson, 18, of Smyrna was traveling eastbound on Wheatleys Pond Road in the roadway.  According to investigators, Robinson was wearing dark clothing and was not wearing helmet.

As Robinson continued eastbound, he was struck by a 2006 Ford Ranger truck traveling eastbound on Wheatleys Pond Road.  The operator of the truck Paul E. McVicker, Jr., 29, of Hartly, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Robinson was thrown from the bicycle and landed on the shoulder of the roadway.  Robison was pronounced dead at the scene.  Wheatleys Pond Road was closed for approximately two hours while investigators examined the scene.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation. No charges will be filed against Mr. McVicker.
