Updated Information Fatal Crash

Harrington-State Police collision reconstruction investigators have provided additional information concerning a fatal crash reported last night at approximately 11:50 p.m.

 

Upon arrival at the scene, troopers learned a 2007 Ford F150 truck operated by John M. Kogut, 25 of, Felton was traveling northbound on S. Dupont Hwy (U.S. 13) in the southbound left lane.  According to witness statements, the truck had been traveling northbound in the southbound lane for a number of miles.

 

As the truck continued north, it struck a southbound 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer operated by Deltez K. Jackson, 29, of Salisbury, Maryland. After the collision the Ford F150 truck caught fire.

 

Mr. Kogut, was wearing a seatbelt.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Mr. Jackson was also wearing a seatbelt.  He was not injured.

 

Alcohol involvement is unknown.  The crash remains under investigation.  U.S. 13 was closed for a total of five hours while investigators examined and cleared the scene.

Early Morning Fatal Crash Involving Tractor Trailer Shuts Down US13

Harrington-The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is currently investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred around midnight on RT 13 southbound in the area of Paradise Alley Road.  The crash involved a tractor trailer and at least one other vehicle.

 

Investigators at the scene have confirmed one fatality.  Route 13 at Paradise Alley Road was shut down for approximately three hours while investigators examined the scene.

 

Supplementary information will be released to the media as soon as practical. The name of the victim is being withheld at the time of this release. No other information is available at this time.  The investigation is ongoing.
