Traffic Stop Nets Marijuana and a Gun

On Thursday, February 28th,
at approximately 2:56 a.m., a Troop 5 patrol officer spotted a
1994 Land Rover traveling in front of him on US 13 southbound
displaying a registration that was suspended. The Trooper
gathered this information while running the tag through his in
car computer and obtaining the vehicle information from DMV.
Upon stopping
the vehicle in the area of Sussex Highway and Brickyard Road,
the lone driver (Jonathan L.
Stevens, 28, of Eastlake Gardens, Dover) informed the
Trooper his driver’s suspended. While gathering information from
the computer files, it was also determined that Mr. Stevens was
wanted out of Kent County Court of Common Pleas.
Mr. Stevens
was placed in custody and a search of him revealed he was in
possession of approximately eight grams of marijuana. Once Mr.
Stevens was placed in the patrol car, an inventory search of his
vehicle was conducted by the Trooper locating a small caliber
handgun in the rear seat.
Mr. Stevens
was transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with the
following felonies: Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon,
Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony,
Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited,
Maintaining a Vehicle, and Possession with Intent to
Manufacture. He was also charged with traffic offenses to
include Driving Under the Influence.
Mr. Stevens
was remanded to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown
after failing to post $16,000.00 cash bond
