Two Lewes
Teens Charged with Burglarizing Storage Units

Lewes-The
Delaware State Police recently charged two local teens with
burglary, theft and conspiracy after they allegedly broke into
sixteen storage units at the Midway Storage located at the
Midway Shopping Center on Coastal Highway in Lewes.
On Saturday,
February 23, 2008 at 2:24 a.m. troopers from Troop 7 responded
to the self-storage facility to investigate a reported burglary
in progress.
A concerned
citizen reported two white males wearing all dark clothing, were
entering storage units. The citizen also advised the suspects
removed what appeared to be a guitar and other items before
fleeing the area toward White Water Mountain amusement park.
Troopers
checked the area, and a Madeira Acoustical guitar, a Squire
Champ amplifier, and a water jug containing an undisclosed
amount of money were recovered next to the fence that surrounded
White Water Mountain.
As
investigators canvassed the area, a witness reported two
suspicious males walking behind the mall area at Midway.
Troopers responded to the parking area behind the Road House
Restaurant, where the two suspects later identified as Torrey
H. Rhodes, 16 and Francis E. McManus, Jr., 15
both of Lewes were located.
Both McManus
and Rhodes matched the description of the suspects and were
taken into custody without incident. Both suspects were taken
to Troop 7 and confessed to breaking into the storage units.
Both were
charged with the following criminal offenses: 16 counts of
Burglary 3rd Degree (Felonies), one count of
Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony), one count of Theft
(misdemeanor) and one count of Criminal Trespass 3rd
Degree (a violation under Delaware Code). Both boys were
arraigned, released on unsecured bond and turned over to their
parents pending a hearing in Sussex County Family Court.
