Charged after Bringing Knife to School
Released-Monday, February 11, 2008
Dover-
Earlier today, Delaware State Police school resources officers
assigned at Caesar Rodney High School arrested a 17-year-old Camden
boy for carrying a concealed deadly weapon to school. The boy was
charged after he allegedly carried the nine-inch dagger to school in
a backpack.
A student who observed the boy with a silver
knife blade sticking out of his jacket sleeve while on the bus first
contacted troopers. Troopers and school administrators contacted
the boy at his homeroom and removed him from class.
He was escorted to the security office and
told there were students on the bus who observed him with a knife.
The boy reached into his backpack and pulled out a nine-inch dagger
with a blade that measured approximately five and a half inches
long.
During an interview the boy told troopers he
forgot the dagger was in his book bag and he denied carrying the
weapon up his sleeve.
As a result of the investigation, troopers
formally charged Charles M. Elliott with Carrying a Concealed
Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone, both
felonies. He was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and
released on his own recognizance. Elliott was also suspended from
school. |
