Information – SR1 Crash
Released-Tuesday, February 12, 2008
Dover-Yesterday
at approximately 2:10 p.m., state troopers from Troop 3 were
dispatched to SR1 southbound in the area of the toll plaza to
investigate a reported vehicle crash involving three vehicles
including a tractor-trailer.
Upon arrival
investigators learned a 1995 Freightliner tractor-trailer operated
by Roger E. Blades, Sr., 64 of Parsonsburg, Md., was
southbound behind a 1977 Ford tow-truck operated by Lewin E.
Steele, 55, of Smyrna, De.
The Ford was
towing a 2006 Ford box truck owned by a Milton based overhead door
company. The Ford was rear ended by the Freightliner. The vehicles
continued approximately two-hundred feet before coming to rest in
the median.
Roger E. Blades
was wearing a seatbelt. He was not injured. Mr. Blades was charged
with Inattentive Driving. Lewin E. Steele was wearing a seatbelt.
He was transported to Kent General Hospital. He was treated and
released for non life-threatening injuries.
Mr. Steele’s
passenger, Thomas N. Vanvliet, 33 of Harrington was also
wearing a seatbelt and transported to Kent General Hospital. Mr.
Vanvliet was treated and released for non life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
SR 1 southbound
between Exit 104 and Exit 95 was closed for several hours while
troopers examined the scene and Del-dot personnel replaced barriers
damaged in the crash.

Involving Tractor Trailer Shuts Down SR 1
Released-Monday, February 11, 2008
Dover-The
Delaware State Police are currently investigating a vehicle crash
that occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. on SR 1 in the area of the
Main Toll Plaza.
First reports
from the scene indicate a tractor-trailer and box truck are
involved. There is a report of at least one injury at this time.
Fire personnel, state troopers and DNREC are on scene.
SR 1 southbound
between Exit 104 and Exit 95 is currently closed while Del-dot
workers replace barriers damaged in the crash. Motorists can expect
delays. More information will be released when it becomes
available.
