Local Teens Charged with Stealing
All Terrain Vehicles

today, Delaware State Police criminal investigators charged three
local teenagers during a theft investigation involving all terrain
vehicles.
The first theft was reported on
Monday January 28, 2008. During that investigation, troopers
contacted a 43-year-old Harrington woman who called police after a
four wheeled Artic Cat ATV was stolen from her home located along
Hills Market Road.
On Thursday, January 31, 2008
troopers responded to Hills Market road to investigate a second
report of a stolen ATV. Once there, investigators contacted a
50-year-old man who told them a Yamaha Raptor 350 four wheeled ATV
had been stolen from his property.
During Thursday’s investigation,
troopers received a third reported theft of an ATV. This incident
was reported by a 51-year-old Harrington man who told investigators
his four wheeled Suzuki 400 ATV was taken from his home located
along S. DuPont Highway.
On Wednesday, January 30, 2008, a
state trooper observed David A. Jones, 17, of Magnolia operating the
stolen Yamaha Raptor 350 ATV in Magnolia. Jones was pursued and
apprehended by the trooper.
Jones was taken to Troop 3 and
interviewed. During the interview Jones stated the ATV he was riding
was stolen. Jones also told investigators that two additional ATV’s
were in the woods behind his home. Those vehicles were recovered by
police and returned to the victims.
During the investigation, Eric
Lauer, 15, and Ricky I. Baker, Jr., 17, both of Magnolia, were
developed as suspects. Both were taken to Troop 3 and interviewed on
January 31, 2008. Both suspects confessed to helping Jones steal the
four wheelers.
As a result of the investigation,
Jones, Lauer, and Baker were all charged with the following criminal
offenses: three counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle (felonies), three
counts of Burglary Third Degree (felonies), Conspiracy Second Degree
(felony) and three counts of Criminal Trespass Third Degree
(violations).
The suspects were arraigned at the
Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released on their own recognizance.
