Subject-Apparent Suicide Investigation
Released-Friday, January 11, 2008
Dover-The
Delaware State Police are currently investigating an apparent
suicide that occurred earlier today at a residence located in
Kentwood Mobile Estates near Dover.
State Troopers were initially dispatched to the mobile home park at
approximately 12:47 p.m. to assist Probation and Parole officers
with locating a 24-year-old Dover man who was wanted by police.
During their investigation Probation and Parole officers received
information that the man hereafter referred to as the victim, was at
a residence located along the 100 block of Kentwood Drive.
The victim was wanted on an active Kent County Superior Court
warrant for Possession with Intent to Deliver Narcotics (Felony),
Maintaining a Vehicle for Keeping Controlled Substances (Felony),
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor) and traffic charges.
He was also wanted by Troop 3 on an active warrant issued on
December 25, 2007 charging him with two counts of misdemeanor theft.
When parole officers and troopers arrived, they made contact with
four adults in the home who advised the victim was barricaded in a
back bedroom. These subjects were immediately removed from the home
as troopers called for additional police resources including the
State Police special operations response team and conflict
management team.
In an effort to contain the situation, officers set up a perimeter
and safely evacuated homes located in close proximity to the home. A
trooper inside the home continued a dialogue with the victim who
refused to come out of the bedroom. As troopers continued to
negotiate with the victim, a shot was heard inside the bedroom.
Members of the special operations response team immediately entered
the bedroom and located the victim who was suffering from a self
inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Troopers and paramedics immediately rendered first aid. The victim
was transported to Kent General Hospital via ambulance. He was later
flown to Christiana Hospital where he later died. The investigation
is ongoing.
