FATAL CRASH I495, WILMINGTON


DSP News Release: Fatal Crash I495, Wilmington

 

Location:

·         I495 N/B at Edgemoor Road, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  

·         Friday, September 30, 2011 at 3:26 a.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

·         Operator #1: Edwin W. Trill Jr.-32 of Ridley Park, PA (Deceased)

·         Vehicle #1: 2010 Chevrolet Express Box Truck

 

·         Operator #2: Alvin Flaud-59 of Honey Brook, PA (Treated and released)

·         Vehicle#2: 1995 Peterbilt Tractor with bulk tank trailer (empty).

 

·         Operator #3: Bryan Colon-68 of Washington, NC (Not injured)

·         Vehicle#3: 1999 Kenworth Tractor with flatbed trailer hauling lumber. 

 

 

 

Resume:

Wilmington-The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving 3 vehicles that occurred early this morning.

 

The crash occurred at approximately 3:26 a.m. this morning as Edwin W. Trill Jr.-32 of Ridley Park, PA was operating a 2010 Chevrolet Express Box Truck and was traveling I495 northbound approaching Edgemoor Road.  The front of the Chevrolet Box Truck struck the rear of a 1995 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer that was stopped in traffic from an unrelated crash that had occurred earlier on I495 N/B in the area of Philadelphia Pike, Claymont.  The 1995 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer was being operated by Alvin Flaud-59 of Honey Brook, PA.  After the impact, the 1995 Peterbilt was pushed forward with its front striking the rear of a 1999 Kenworth Tractor Trailer, being operated by Bryan Colon-68 of Washington, NC.

 

Edwin W. Trill Jr. was transported by Delaware State Police Aviation Helicopter Trooper 4 to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead.

 

Alvin Flaud was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was treated for minor injuries.  Bryan Colon was not injured in the crash.

 

Preliminary investigation indicates that Trill was not wearing his seatbelt.  Both operators of the other vehicles were properly restrained.  Unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol is a factor in this crash.

 

I495 N/B was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

 

The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this crash.

I 495 N/B has been cleared and is now open for traffic.  Expect delays due to the high volume.

 

The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash with one confirmed fatality involved.

 

Details of the crash to be released at the conclusion of the preliminary investigation.

DSP News Release: Traffic Advisory, Serious Motor Vehicle Crash with Road Closure

 

Location:

·         I495 N/B at Edgemoor Road, Wilmington, DE

 

Date:

·         Friday, September 30, 2011 at 0600

 

Resume:

Wilmington-The Delaware State Police are currently on-scene investigating a serious motor vehicle crash in the area of I495 northbound at Edgemoor Road, Wilmington.

 

Troopers are advising that I495 N/B is closed with traffic being diverted onto the Edgemoor Road exit.  Motorists are advised to avoid the area completely and utilize I95 N/B, or an alternate route of travel to their destination.  Updated information will be provided as information to the crash becomes available.
