WILMINGTON MAN CRITICALLY INJURED IN CRASH


DSP News Release:  Wilmington Man Critically Injured in Crash

 

Location: Southbound I-95 at Churchman’s Road, Newark, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Friday, September 16, 2011 at 8:30 p.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

 

Operator #1: William M. Vanover, 27, Wilmington, DE

Vehicle #1: 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle

 

Operator #2: Scott Residence, 48, Allentown, PA

Vehicle #2: 2011 Kia Soul

Newark, DE- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred early yesterday evening in Newark.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday as William Vanover was operating a Kawasaki motorcycle and was traveling on southbound I-95 approaching Churchman’s Road. For an unknown reason, the front of Vanover’s motorcycle struck the rear of a 2011 Kia Soul that was also in the center lane of southbound I-95, and which was being operated by Scott Residence, 48. Vanover was ejected from his motorcycle and landed in the right hand lane of the interstate.

 

William Vanover, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. Scott Residence was not injured.

 

The two right hand southbound lanes of I-95 were closed for approximately 3 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

 

This crash remains under investigation.
