PUBLIC TIPS LEAD TO ARREST OF BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT


DSP News Release:  Public Tips Lead to Arrest of Bank Robbery Suspect

·         Thomas J. Wingfield-34 Newark, DE

Resume:

New Castle-Delaware State Police Robbery Detectives have arrested a Newark man in connection with the robbery of the PNC Bank, University Plaza that occurred on Friday, September 9, 2011.

 

The incident occurred as the suspect entered the bank branch located at 84 University Plaza, Newark, DE at approximately 9:40 a.m. The suspect approached a bank teller and produced a note announcing a robbery and demanding cash from the teller. The bank teller complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect. He then fled from the bank in an unknown direction. There were no injuries.

 

Through investigation and numerous tips from the public after media publishing of the surveillance photos, Troop 2 Robbery Detectives were able to connect Thomas J. Wingfield-34 of Newark, DE to the robbery.

 

The investigation culminated in the early morning hours on Sunday, September 11, 2011 as Delaware State Troopers located Wingfield at the Dutch Inn Motel, 100 block of South Dupont Highway, New Castle where he was staying. Wingfield was taken into custody without incident.

 

Wingfield was arrested and charged with the above crime.  He was arraigned and committed to HRYCI.  Bond information not available at the time of this release.

DSP News Release: Detectives Release Photos of Robbery Suspect

 

Suspect:    

 

White male, 25-30 years of age, 5’07” to 5’10” tall, with a thin build, He was last seen wearing a camouflage hat, dark colored coat with a light blue collared button down shirt and a teal or green colored t-shirt underneath, and dark colored pants and shoes.

Newark, DE- Delaware State Police detectives have released surveillance photographs of the suspect who robbed the PNC Bank located in the University Plaza Shopping Center in Newark this morning.

 

The incident occurred as the below pictured suspect entered the bank branch located at 84 University Plaza, Newark, DE at approximately 9:40 a.m. The suspect approached a bank teller and produced a note announcing a robbery and demanding cash from the teller. The bank teller complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect. He then fled from the bank in an unknown direction. There were no injuries.

 

Detectives are asking anyone who may know the identity of the pictured suspect, to contact the robbery squad at Troop 2 at 302-834-2630 ext. 236 or ext. 6. -White male in his twenties, 6’00” tall, with a skinny build. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue t-shirt, black pants, and a baseball cap.

Newark, DE- Delaware State Police detectives are currently investigating the robbery of the PNC Bank located in the University Plaza Shopping Center in Newark, DE.

 

Initial information is that a male suspect entered the bank at approximately 9:40 a.m. He then presented a teller with a demand note for cash. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled in an unknown direction.

 

This investigation is in its early stages. More detailed information will be released as soon as it is provided.
