Resume:

Camden, De-Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit assisted by the Camden Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday evening around 7:15 p.m. 

 

The crash occurred at the intersection of Camden-Wyoming Avenue and Main Street in the town limits of Camden Delaware.  A 2004 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Augustine F. Castaneda was traveling westbound on Camden-Wyoming Avenue approaching Main Street. 

 

The crash sequence began when the Chevrolet Malibu 1st veered off the north side of the roadway striking a curb.  The Chevrolet operator Castaneda next veered across the eastbound lane of travel striking a 2nd curb.  Castaneda’s vehicle continued westbound striking a utility pole before proceeding through a red traffic light. 

 

When Castaneda’s vehicle passed through the intersection and collided with a 2007 Saturn traveling southbound which had a green traffic light.  Castaneda’s vehicle struck the Saturn on its driver’s side door. 

 

Following the crash with the Saturn Castaneda’s vehicle continued westbound a short distance before overturning onto its roof. 

 

Augustine and Phyllis Castaneda died from injuries sustained in the crash.  Naomi Griffin suffered unspecified non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash. 

 

Delaware State Police are investigating whether a prior medical condition was a factor in the crash.  Alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
