The accident occurred at approximately 11:36 p.m. last night as Stephen Shaw, 19, was operating a 1999 International truck and was traveling southbound on DE Rt. 896 approaching the intersection of Winsome Way. For an unknown reason, Shaw’s vehicle left the west edge of the roadway and traveled approximately 500 feet before colliding with a ditch and coming to rest. The force of the collision caused one of the truck’s fuel tanks to become dislodged spilling between 75 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the ground. A Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) hazardous materials crew as well as fire department personnel responded to the scene to assist in cleaning up the spill.

Stephen Shaw was citied by the Delaware State Police and DNREC for the above list of charges. He was not injured in the crash. Traffic was not affected.
