DE RT#896 AND I95 TRACTOR TRAILER CRASH
DSP News Release: DE RT#896 and I95 Tractor Trailer Crash
· Ramp from I95 Southbound to DE RT#896 Southbound, Newark
Date of Occurrence:
· Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.
· Theo J. Winters-39 of Newark, DE (Properly restrained/not injured)
· 2009 International Tractor with flatbed trailer hauling steel coil.
· Cited for Unsafe Load/Cargo
Newark-Troopers cited a Newark, DE man for operating a vehicle with an unsafe load/cargo after a tractor trailer crash with rollover this afternoon.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. this afternoon as Theo J. Winters-39 of Newark, DE was operating a 2009 International Tractor Trailer traveling from the I95 southbound off ramp to DE RT#896 southbound, hauling a flatbed trailer with a load of steel coil. As the tractor trailer negotiated the turn of the ramp, the load of steel coil shifted causing the tractor trailer to overturn on its left side, at the top of the ramp on DE RT#896 southbound. Winters was not injured as a result of this crash and declined medical treatment at the scene.
Winters was cited for having an Unsafe Load/Cargo.
The ramp from I95 southbound to 896 southbound was closed and traffic was restricted to one lane in both directions of 896 for approximately 2.5-3.0 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Newark-Troopers are currently on scene of a one vehicle crash with an overturned tractor trailer, DE#896 southbound over I95. There are no injuries reported at this time.
Troopers are advising that the ramp from I95 southbound to DE#896 southbound is closed at this time while the crash is investigated and cleared.
Also, DE#896 in both directions is limited to one lane at the crash scene.
Troopers advise motorists to avoid the area and plan alternate routes. An updated release will follow as information becomes available.
