DSP News Release: Troopers Probe Dover Area Fatal Crash

Location: Forrest Avenue (SR 8) at Rose Valley School Road, west of Dover, DE

Date and Time of Occurrence: Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 2:55 p.m.

-Operator #2: Selvin A. A. Ochoa, 23, Marydel, MD

-Vehicle #2: 1992 Toyota truck

Dover, DE- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred this afternoon just west of Dover.

The incident happened at approximately 2:55 p.m. this afternoon as Jennifer R. Cardone, 29, was operating a 2003 Hyundai and was traveling northbound on Rose Valley School Road approaching Forrest Avenue just west of Dover, DE. As Cardone arrived at the intersection of Forrest Avenue, she failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection. Cardone’s vehicle was then struck on the driver’s side by a 1992 Toyota truck that was being operated by Selvin Ochoa, 23,  and which was traveling eastbound on Forrest Avenue. The Hyundai then rotated approximately 180 degrees and traveled off of the north edge of Forrest Avenue where it then came to rest in a wooded area. Selvin Ochoa’s vehicle also rotated approximately 180 degrees and came to rest in the roadway.

Jennifer Cardone was transported from the scene by EMS to the Kent General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her body was turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Selvin Ochoa was transported from the scene by EMS to the Kent General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.

This crash remains under investigation at this time.
