ATTEMPTED ROBBERY OF ELDERLY MAN


DSP News Release:  Attempted Robbery of Elderly Man 

 

Location:

·         George Reed Middle School (athletic running track), 314 East Basin Road, New Castle, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:

·         Monday, October 17, 2011 at 8:20 p.m.

 

Victim:

·         75 year old male

 

Suspects:

·         Black male, 30-35 years of age, 5’09” tall, 160-180 lbs, average build. Last seen wearing dark clothing (no further description).  Suspect was armed with an unknown type handgun.

·         Black male, 30-35 years of age, 5’07” tall, 150-170 lbs, average build. Last seen wearing dark clothing (no further description)

 

Resume:

New Castle-The Delaware State Police are investigating the attempted robbery of an elderly man that occurred on the unlit running track in the rear of the George Read Middle School, last night.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. as the victim was running on the athletic track in the rear of the school, when he was approached from behind by the two male suspects.  One of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s property.   The victim began to run away and the suspect fired several rounds in an unknown direction.  The suspects then fled on foot empty handed.  The victim fell to the ground while running from the incident and was injured. 

 

The victim was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital where he was being treated for facial injuries.

 

“Troopers urge the Public to BE ALERT, BE SAFE. Walk in pairs or groups, especially after dark.  Avoid congregating or walking through dark or unlit areas.  Be aware of your surroundings. Conceal your valuables.”
