DSP News Release: Two Suffer Minor Injuries in Salem Church Road Accident

Newark, DE- The Delaware State Police investigated a two vehicle accident in which two people were slightly injured that occurred early this afternoon in Newark. 

The crash occurred as William D. Blevins was operating a 1978 Ford Fairmont and was traveling southbound on Salem Church Road in the area of Craig David Drive in Newark. According to Blevins, the steering of his vehicle malfunctioned causing him to drive off of the west edge of the road and into a ditch. Blevins then overcorrected his vehicle which then traveled back across the southbound lane of Salem Church Road before entering the northbound lane where it struck a 2006 Honda Civic which was being operated by Pamela J. Waters. The Honda was forced off of the roadway where it struck a Delmarva Power and Light pole which it knocked down into the roadway.

Pamela Waters was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was treated and released for minor injuries. William Blevin also suffered minor injuries, however, he refused treatment. He was cited by troopers with operating an unsafe motor vehicle.

Salem Church Road in between Old Baltimore Pike and I-95 was closed for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Salem Church Road has been reopened to traffic at this time.

This crash remains under investigation. Details will be released at a later time.

DSP News Release:  Traffic Advisory- Road Closed Due to Accident

Location: Salem Church Road at Craig David Dr., Newark, DE

Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, October 15, 2011 at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Newark, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently at the scene of a personal injury accident on Salem Church Road and Craig David Drive in Newark, DE.

As a result of the crash Salem Church Road in between Old Baltimore Pike and I-95 is closed at this time and commuters are asked to find alternate means of travel.

Specifics of the accident are unknown at this time but will be released as they are received.
