TWO INJURED IN THREE VEHICLE CRASH

DSP News Release: Two Injured in Three Vehicle Crash
Location: DE Rt. 2 (Kirkwood Highway) at St. James Church Road, Wilmington, DE
Date and Time of Occurrence: Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 8:10 a.m.

Resume: Wilmington, DE- A Wilmington, DE man has been cited by the Delaware State Police after a three vehicle crash in which two people were injured that occurred this morning.
The accident happened at approximately 8:10 a.m. as Kevin A. Hinckle, 29, was operating a Ford F-150 pickup truck and was traveling eastbound on Kirkwood Highway approaching the intersection of St. James Church Road. Hinckle had to swerve his vehicle to the right after failing to see traffic stopped in front of him at the red light. Hinckle’s vehicle then jumped a curb and traveled in a northeast direction through a parking lot and entered onto St. James Church Road. It then struck a 2000 Toyota Camry which was stopped on northbound St. James Church Road, and which was being operated by Paul Shute, 48, of Wilmington. Shute’s vehicle was then pushed in an eastbound direction where it struck a 2011 Toyota Highlander which was also stopped on northbound St. James Church Road, and which was being operated by Nancy Baker, 65, of Wilmington.
Paul Shute was trapped in his vehicle for approximately 20 minutes until emergency responders were able to free him. He was then transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he is currently being treated for non life threatening injuries. Nancy Baker was also transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where she is also being treated for non life threatening injuries. Kevin Hinckle was not injured. He was cited by troopers with traveling at an unsafe speed and inattentive driving.
St. James Church Road was closed for approximately 45 minutes as the crash was investigated and cleared.
