DSP News Release: Laurel Man Dies in Mower Incident

 

Date and Time of Incident: Wednesday, October 05, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.

 

Location: Hudson Road and Log Cabin Hill Road, Lewes, DE

 

Victim: Eric T. Givens, 24, Laurel, DE

 

Resume:

Lewes, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the death of a 24 year old Laurel, DE man who was electrocuted while working this morning.

 

The incident happened at approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning as Delaware Department of Transportation employee Eric T. Givens was operating a large grass cutting tractor in the area of Hudson Road and Log Cabin Hill Road in Lewes, DE. The rear of Givens’ tractor caught on a metal guide wire which was connected to a utility pole. Givens then exited the tractor and attempted to free it by pulling or shaking the wire. The guide wire made contact with a live electrical wire which then electrocuted Givens, knocking him to the ground. A fellow employee who was also working in the area contacted the 9-1-1 call center and rendered aid to Givens until the arrival of EMS.

 

Eric Givens was removed from the scene and transported to the Beebe Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body was then turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

 

This incident remains under investigation at this time.

Lewes, DE- Log Cabin Hill Road has been re-opened to traffic.

 

Delaware State Police detectives have advised that a Delaware Department of Transportation worker was electrocuted and as a result has died from his injuries.

DSP News Release:  Troopers on Scene of Mower Incident

 

Location: Hudson Road at Log Cabin Hill Road, Lewes, DE

 

Date and Time of Occurrence: Wednesday, October 05, 2011 at approximately 10:20 a.m.

 

Resume:   

Lewes, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently at the scene of an incident in which a lawn mower has struck an electrical power line on Hudson Road and Log Cabin Hill Road, Lewes, DE.

 

Initial indication is that a Delaware Department of Transportation worker struck an electrical power line while cutting grass in the area. The worker was injured; however, the extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. Electrical power in the area has also been disrupted. 

 

Log Cabin Hill Road has been shut down and commuters are asked to find alternate means of travel around the area.

 

The investigation into this incident is in its initial stages. More information will be released as it is received.
