DSP News Release: Troopers Investigate Pedestrian Crash US 40
Location: · Pulaski Highway (US 40) west of Governor’s Square Shopping Center, Bear, DE
Date of Occurrence: · Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 4:10 p.m.
Pedestrian: · Jesse Yates-23 of Newark, DE
Operator/Vehicle: · Tiffany M. Lux-32 of Newark, DE · 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
Resume: Bear-The Delaware State Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that has left a Newark man in critical condition, late Wednesday afternoon.
The crash occurred on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 4:10 p.m. as Jesse Yates-23 of Newark, DE was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of US 40 from the center grass median when he was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche being operated by Tiffany M. Lux-32 of Newark, DE.
Jesse Yates was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was admitted in critical condition.
Tiffany Lux was properly restrained and was not injured.
The eastbound lanes of Pulaski Highway were closed for approximately 1 hour with limited lane restrictions while the crash was investigated and cleared.
Troopers continue to investigate this crash.
“Troopers remind pedestrians of using caution and safety when walking on or near roadways. If you must cross a roadway, make sure to look left, then right, then left again before proceeding. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night must carry a flashlight for added safety.”
