DSP News Release: Troopers Investigate Suspicious Suitcase

Wilmington-The Delaware State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit responded to the Sunoco Gas Station on Kirkwood Highway earlier this afternoon for the report of a suspicious suitcase in the area of the gas pumps.

 

On Sunday, November 20, 2011 at approximately 4:18 p.m. Troopers responded to the Sunoco Gas Station after an alert customer became concerned after discovering a suspicious suitcase that had been left at the gas pumps unattended.  Responding Troopers immediately evacuated the Sunoco, neighboring stores and residences as a precaution and notified the DSP EOD Unit.

 

The Delaware State Police EOD Unit responded and examined the suitcase and determined it to be non explosive and empty of contents.  The scene was declared safe with all units clearing.  Kirkwood Highway between Newport Gap Pike and Evelyn Drive was closed in both directions for approximately 1.5 hours while the incident was investigated.
