DSP News Release: Wilmington Man Injured in Crash

Location: Southbound DE Rt. 7 (Limestone Road) at Main Street, Stanton, DE

Date and Time of Occurrence: Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 8:10 p.m.

-Operator #1: Bryan Vachon, 31, Montgomery, AL

-Vehicle #1: 2005 Peterbilt Tractor and Trailer

-Operator #2: Brandon Valites, 29, Wilmington, DE

-Vehicle #2: 2010 Hyundai Accent

Stanton, DE- The Delaware State Police investigated a two vehicle crash in which a Wilmington man was seriously injured last night in Stanton.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. Sunday as Brandon Valites was operating a 2010 Hyundai Accent and was traveling southbound on DE Rt. 7 in the right hand lane just north of Main Street in Stanton. Valites failed to see traffic stopped in front of him for a red light and struck the rear of a 2005 Peterbilt tractor and trailer which was being operated by Bryan Vachon, 31. The force of the collision caused Valites to become trapped in his vehicle until he could be removed by emergency responders.

Brandon Valites was then transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in serious condition with multiple injuries. Bryan Vachon was not injured.

Valites was citied by Troopers with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Failure to Use a Seatbelt, Careless Driving, Failure to Maintain a Lane of Travel, and Making an Unsafe lane Change. 

The southbound lanes of DE Rt. 7 were closed for approximately one hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Stanton, DE- Northbound DE Rt. 7 has been re-opened to traffic at this time.

A male subject injured in this crash has been removed from the scene and transported to the Christiana Hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

This crash remains under investigation at this time.

DSP News Release:  Troopers Investigating Serious Motor Vehicle Crash

Location: Northbound DE Rt. 7 (Limestone Road) at Main Street, Stanton, DE

Date and Time of Occurrence: Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 8:10 p.m.                     

Resume:  

Stanton, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious motor vehicle crash in Stanton, DE. Initial information is that the crash involves a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer and that one subject involved is seriously injured.

Northbound DE Rt. 7 is currently closed and commuters are asked to find alternate means of travel around the crash scene.

The investigation into this crash is in its early stages.

More information will be released as it is provided.
