PUBLIC TIPS LEAD TO ROBBERY ARREST


DSP News Release: Public Tips Lead to Robbery Arrest

Victim: 

  • 82 year old male from Dahlgren, VA

Resume:

Newark-Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Detectives have arrested a Newark man in connection with the robbery and assault of an 82 year old man that occurred on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the McDonalds Restaurant in Bear.

 

The incident occurred on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. as the male victim was inside of the McDonald’s Restaurant located inside of the Governor’s Square Shopping Center, Bear, DE. The victim, who was waiting inside of the restaurant for his food order, felt someone’s hand inside of his pants pocket. The victim attempted to pull away but was pushed to the ground by a male suspect. The suspect then removed money from the victim’s pocket and fled from the restaurant. He was last seen traveling in a westbound direction through the parking lot on a black bike. The victim suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated and released.

 

After releasing the surveillance photos of the suspect to the media, Detectives received several tips identifying the suspect as Anthony Young-45 of Newark.  Through further investigation, Troop 2 Robbery Detectives were able to connect Young to the robbery of the elderly male.

 

 On Tuesday, November 8, 2011, Young was taken into custody without incident at a residence located in the 100 block of Lake Drive, Newark, DE.

 

Young was arrested and charged with the above crimes. He was arraigned and committed to HRYCI on $15,000 Secured Bond.

 

 

The Delaware State Police would like to thank the public for their continued support, involvement, and vigilance in providing information and reporting suspicious persons and activity.

DSP News Release: Troop 2 Robbery Detectives Request Public Assistance 

 

Location:

  • McDonald’s Restaurant, 1401 Governor’s Place, Bear, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:

  • Friday, October 28, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.

 

Victim: 

  • 82 year old male from Dahlgren, VA

 

Suspect:   

  • Black male, 35-40 years of age, 5’09”-6’0” tall, 230-250 lbs, large build. Last seen wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt, black shirt, white or light gray pants, and was riding a black ten speed bike. (Surveillance photo’s attached)
  • Suspect may reside in the area of the Governor’s Square Shopping Center

Bear- Delaware State Police Robbery Detectives are continuing their investigation and request public assistance in identifying the suspect in the surveillance photo’s, wanted in connection for the robbery and assault of a Virginia man that occurred October 28, 2011.

Bear, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the strong-arm robbery of a Virginia man that occurred yesterday evening in Bear.

 

The incident happened at approximately 6:00 p.m. as the male victim was inside of the McDonald’s Restaurant located inside of the Governor’s Square Shopping Center, Bear, DE. The victim, who was waiting inside of the restaurant for his food order, felt someone’s hand inside of his pants pocket. The victim attempted to pull away but was pushed to the ground by a male suspect. The suspect then removed money from the victim’s pocket and fled from the restaurant. He was last seen traveling in a westbound direction through the parking lot on a black bike. The victim suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated and released.
