PEDESTRIAN STRUCK LIMESTONE ROAD


DSP News Release: Pedestrian Struck Limestone Road

 

Location:

·         Limestone Road at Hendry Drive, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:

·         Friday, November 4, 2011 at 6:54 p.m.

 

Pedestrian:

·         Christina O’Malia-14 of Wilmington, DE

 

Operator/Vehicle:

·         Harrison Long-21 of Wilmington, DE

·         2000 Honda Civic

 

Resume:

Wilmington-The Delaware State Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that has left a teenager in critical condition, earlier this evening.

 

The crash occurred at approximately 6:54 p.m. this evening as Christina O’Malia-14 of Wilmington was attempting to walk in an eastbound direction across the southbound lanes of Limestone Road. As O’Malia reached the left lane of Limestone Road southbound, she was struck by a 2000 Honda Civic being operated by Harrison Long-21 of Wilmington. 

 

Christina O’Malia was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where she was admitted in critical condition.

 

Harrison Long was properly restrained with seatbelt and was not injured.

 

The southbound lanes of Limestone Road were closed for approximately 2 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

 

Troopers continue to investigate this crash.

 

Troopers remind pedestrians of using caution and safety when walking on or near roadways. If you must cross a roadway, make sure to look left, then right, then left again before proceeding. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night must carry a flashlight for added safety.
