DSP News Release:  Troopers Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Location: Bay Road (SR 1) north of Barretts Chapel Road, Frederica, DE

Frederica, DE- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred last night just north of Frederica, DE.

The crash happened at approximately 8:05 p.m. as Ira Harmon, 81, was operating a 2007 Kia Rio and was traveling southbound on Bay Road north of Barretts Chapel Road in Frederica. For an unknown reason, Harmon’s vehicle traveled off of the west edge of Bay Road and into a field where it struck a wooden fence before coming to rest after striking a tree.

Ira Harmon was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Kent General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her body was turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

This crash remains under investigation at this time.
