TROOPERS INVESTIGATE CRASH IN LINCOLN


DSP News Release: Troopers Investigate Crash in Lincoln

 

Location: Johnson Road and North Old State Road, Lincoln, DE

 

Date of Occurrence: Wednesday May 9, 2012 at approximately 5:55 p.m.

  • Operator #1: Cheryl D. Thompson, 49, Hartly, DE
  • Vehicle #1: 2009 Gillig Bus (DART)
  • Passengers in Vehicle #1:
    • 29 year old male, Ellendale, DE
    • 27 year old male, Dover, DE
    • 46 year old female, Bridgeville, DE
    • 58 year old male, Milford, DE
    • 23 year old female, Georgetown, DE (Non-life-threatening injury, treated and released from Milford Memorial Hospital)
    • 8 month old male, Georgetown, DE (Not injured, but transported with 23 year old mother for observation)

Lincoln, DE- The Delaware State Police are investigating a two vehicle crash involving a DART bus in Lincoln.

 

The incident occurred yesterday around 5:55 p.m. as Cheryl D. Thompson was operating a 2009 Gillig Bus (DART) westbound on Johnson Road approaching the intersection of North Old State Road.  Kyle T. Fannin was operating a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound on Johnson Road in the westbound lane.  Thompson saw the vehicle in her lane and pulled to the right shoulder where she came to a stop with the bus partially in the roadway.  The Eclipse continued eastbound in the westbound lane and struck the front of the bus head-on.

 

Fannin was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was admitted due to his injuries.

 

The DART bus was carrying six passengers at the time of the crash.  A 23 year old female and her 8 month old male son were transported to Milford Memorial Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.  The 8 month old was not injured but checked by medical personnel and released.

 

The roadway was closed for 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

 

Charges against Fannin are pending upon the conclusion of the investigation.
