Resume:

Newark- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a crash in which one motorcycle rider was killed and a second seriously injured that occurred early this afternoon in Newark.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. as Nicholas Schrader, 16, was operating a Honda dirt bike and was traveling in an eastbound direction on a dirt access road approximately .25 miles east of DE Rt. 72. Schrader’s dirt bike collided almost head-on with a Yamaha dirt bike that was traveling in a westbound direction on the same access road and which was being operated by Cody J. Kegelman, 14. Both riders were thrown from their motor bikes.  It is believed that the operators were initially unable to see each other due to a small hill crest.

Cody Kegelman was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body was turned over to the medical examiners office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Nicholas Schrader was also transported to the Christiana Hospital by EMS where he is being treated for serious injuries. Both operators were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
