DSP News Release:  Driver Charged in Three Vehicle Crash  

Operators/Vehicles:

Operator 1: Dongerette R. Cooper-Eatmon, 36, New Castle, DE

Vehicle 1: 2003 Kia Sedona

Operator 2: John M. Kamau, 41, Newark, DE

Vehicle 2: 2004 GMC Savana

Operator 3: Scott D. Creamer, 38, Newark, DE

Vehicle 3: 2005 Nissan Altima

Newark- The Delaware State Police investigated a three vehicle personal injury accident that occurred this morning on Christiana Road in Newark. 

The crash occurred at approximately 6:55 a.m. as Dongerette Cooper-Eatmon was operating a 2003 Kia Sedona and was traveling eastbound on Rt. 273 just west of Chapman Road. As Cooper-Eatmon was attempting to make a right hand lane change, her vehicle traveled off of the right side of the roadway where it struck a road sign. Her vehicle continued in an eastbound direction, across a ditch, through a grass area, and then across two lanes of southbound Chapman Road. The Kia then struck a second road sign located in the center median of Chapman Road. Cooper-Eatmon’s vehicle then struck the left side of a 2004 GMC Savana that was stooped for a red light on northbound Chapman Road and which was being operated by John M. Kamau, 41. Kamau’s vehicle was then pushed into the left front side of a 2005 Nissan Altima that had also been stopped for a red light on northbound Chapman Road and which was being operated by Scott D. Creamer, 38.

Dongerette Cooper-Eatmon, John Kamau, and Scott Creamer were all transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where they were all treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Dongerette Cooper-Eatmon was cited by troopers for Inattentive Driving and for Failure to Carry Proof of Motor Vehicle Insurance. 

Eastbound Christiana Road as well as northbound Chapman Road were both closed for approximately one hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.

DSP News Release:  Troopers on Scene of Three Vehicle Personal Injury Accident

Location: DE Rt. 273 (Christiana Road) at Chapman Road, Newark, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 6:55 a.m.

Operators/Vehicles:  Unknown at this point.

Resume:  

Newark- The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a three vehicle personal injury accident on DE Rt. 273 at Chapman Road. Preliminary information is that three people have been injured and transported to the Christiana Hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Rt. 273 eastbound as well as northbound Chapman Road had been closed. However, all lanes have since been re-opened. Commuters should expect delays in the area.

This crash is still under investigation at this time. More information will be released after it is received.
