Resume:

Felton-Delaware State Police on Wednesday May 18, 2011 charged Jeremy D. Hurtt-25 of Magnolia Delaware following an investigation involving the assault of a 7 month old Felton Delaware infant.

May 17, 2011 the victim was left in the custody of Hurtt while the mother attended to personal business.  (Hurtt is not related to the victim.  Hurtt is the boyfriend to the victim’s mother.)  Tuesday morning the mother of the victim received a text message from Hurtt advising the victim had fallen and bruised her face.

The victim’s mother returned home and immediately took the infant to Kent General Hospital where she was treated and later released.

State Police detectives during the course of their criminal investigation obtained evidence which contradicted Hurtt’s account of the how the injuries occurred.  The injuries located on the victim were consistent with someone punching and or slapping the infant’s face.  (Photos along with other undisclosed evidence were obtained in the investigation.)

State Police Detectives on Wednesday May 18th charged Hurtt with 1 count of Assault Second Degree.  Hurtt was later arraigned and incarcerated into the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $5,000 secured bond.
