Resume: Wilmington- A New Castle woman was slightly injured after a two vehicle personal injury accident that occurred this morning on I-495 north of Wilmington.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:25 this morning as Carla M. Williams was operating a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser and was traveling northbound on I-495 in the right hand lane. Williams advised responding troopers that she began to fall asleep while driving at which time her vehicle began drifting to the right. Williams then overcorrected her vehicle and entered into the center lane of I-495 northbound directly into the path of a 1999 International tractor which was being operated by Brian K. McClanahan. The front of the tractor struck the right rear of the PT cruiser causing it to spin and then travel off of the roadway where it, as well as the tractor, struck the guardrail in the center median.
Carla Williams was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where she was treated and released for minor injuries. Williams was cited by troopers with inattentive driving. Brian McClanahan was not injured. The left hand lanes of I-495 northbound and southbound were closed for approximately 1.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
