DSP News Release:  Woman Charged after Colliding into House

Location: 600 Block of Old State Road, east of Old Corbitt Road, Odessa, DE

Date of Occurrence:  Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 10:00 p.m.

Vehicle: 2001 Volvo S60

Charges:

-Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

-Driving at an Unreasonable Speed

-No Proof of Motor Vehicle Insurance

Odessa- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Newark, DE woman for DUI and other charges after she crashed her vehicle into a home in Odessa last night.

The incident occurred as Dana M. Stephenson, 32, was operating a 2001 Volvo S60 on northbound Old State Road at approximately 10:00 p.m. last night. Stephenson’s car drifted onto the east shoulder of the roadway, and as she overcorrected, her vehicle spun and then skidded off of the west edge of the roadway. Her vehicle then traveled across a lawn and struck a home in the 600 block of Old State Road, where it came to rest. The collision caused extensive damage to the home which was unoccupied, and which has been declared uninhabitable.

Dana Stephenson was transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where she treated and released. She was then arrested and charged with the above list of crimes. Stevenson was then released pending her appearance at court on a later date.
