DSP News Release: Pedestrian Struck in Accident Dies

 

Luis Torres, the pedestrian struck while crossing Lancaster Avenue late last night, was pronounced dead at the Christiana Hospital at approximately 1:50 a.m. this morning. His body was turned over to the medical examiners office where an autopsy will be performed to determine his exact cause of death.

 

This crash remains under investigation at this time.

DSP News Release:  Troopers Investigate Accident Involving Pedestrian

 

Location: Lancaster Avenue and Barbara Lane, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:  Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:35 p.m.

 

Operators/Vehicles:

 

Operator: Sareba Johnson, 35, Wilmington, DE

Vehicle: Nissan Altima (Unknown year)

 

Victim: Luis Torres, 50, Wilmington, DE

 

Resume:   

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was struck that occurred late last night.

 

The accident occurred as Sareba Johnson, 35, was operating a Nissan Altima     and was traveling westbound in the left hand lane of Lancaster Avenue in the area of Barbara Lane, Wilmington.  Johnson’s vehicle then struck Luis Torres, 50, who was walking in a southbound direction across Lancaster Avenue. Torres was vaulted into the air and landed in the roadway. He was transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he has been admitted with serious injuries. Sareba Johnson was not injured.

 

Lancaster Avenue was closed for approximately 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. This crash remains under investigation at this time.
